Featured Writers: Past, Present & Future

The Nashville Songwriters Festival is proud to present, "Featured Writers of the Fest: Past, Present & Future." This is a general list in of who has attended or will attend and participate or has perform in fest activities over the years.

Check the final Play, Class and Open House schedules May 15th, for a general idea of current attendees and performers.

Who tags along that is not listed is another matter, we can't keep track of them all. Many surprises await in Music City!

Just remember, the fest isn't all about the big gun writers. Most come of their own accord, unpaid to share with you. Naturally, the regular writers want to see and hear the hit writers and their songs but as always, the real featured writers is you! So mix and mingle.

Featured Writer Jim Mayer

Jim Mayer, aka Uncle Jim, is an award-winning children's music performer who has been playing children's music since 2002. The term "Uncle Jim" is not a figurative one; Jim has twenty nieces and nephews and he knows what kids like!

Featured Writer Robin Ruddy

Robin is an in-demand session player and live performer in Nashville. Robin has also been performing with many different major acts over the last decade such as Rod Stewart, Ray Stevens, Lynn Anderson, and Shania Twain. She is a multi-instrumentalist playing pedal steel, banjo, dobro and guitar. When you add in the ability to sing background vocals she has found a niche in Nashville that keeps her very busy.

Robin is a singer songwriter as well and has her own CD out called Sail Away.

Robin and her Husband Larry Sheridan own a music publishing company Best Built Songs, The Parlor recording studio, Parlor Productions a music production company and Music Row Realty, a real estate company that caters to people in the music industry.

Featured Writer Bobby Pizazz

Pizazz began performing in a gospel band in Shreveport LA. Later on he moved to South Dakota where he then joined the band Serria as lead singer and guitarist. He then played the Michigan-Cleveland-area.

In 1984, Pizazz relocated to Nashville were before his bags were unpacked landed a roll as an extra in the movie Patsy Cline biopic Sweet Dreams (where he spent most of his off-camera time staring at Jessica Lange). During this time he also cut his first record "Lost Lonely Feelin' Blue." with Kitty Wells' grandson, drummer engineer Johnnie Sturdivent and guitarist John Rich. He was then invited to join Hoffman & Lamb as a writer where he cut many songs while working behind the scenes of Voice of America LP Project. He was introduced to Scott Turner in late 1989. Were he began shaping his vocals and image. Pizazz was then asked to perform on TNN's American Magazine by Reidland Productions in 1991 where he became most known for performing his self-penned favorite "Lost, Lonely, Feelin' Blue".

Featured Writer Peggy Mercer

Peggy Mercer is a New York published award winning author of children's books and a BMI songwriter with songs cut by well known singers and other projects forthcoming. Her songs are on top of various Indie charts including IAC and IMN etc.

One upcoming project includes a song written with a songwriter's Hall of Famer for Hannah Davis. Other projects are for rising stars Keith Whitley, Amber Gilliard and Billy Garner and more.

She has been nominated for Georgia Author of the Year as well as a Christopher and a Newberry medal.

Peggy is an aggressive promoter of reading among underserved children and passionate about preserving true country music.  "A Great Song Will Find a Way".

Featured Writer Lisa Sanders

Lisa has had numerous appearances with Major recording artist, such as; B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, Sheryl Crow, Dixie Chicks, Al Green, Sarah McLaughlan, Sade, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Sophie B. Hawkins, Stevie Nicks, Sting, Gillian Welch, Loudin Wainright, as well as, Joe Ely, and many more.

She won a Reader Poll Best Acoustic Artist Award; she’s a two time San Diego Music Award Winner; and a National Women Living Legacy Association Award Winner. You'll find Lisa in San Diego, CA and in venues all around the country playing the guitar and singing from the soul.

Lisa is a volunteer and fest Head that has endured sleeping out in a tent in the rain  on a cold night at Loretta Lynn Ranch. What fun we had. :) http://www.lisasandersonline.com/

 

Featured Writer Joey welz

Gold charter member of the ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME, and has been inducted into The Rock A Billy Hall of Fame and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone named him; One of The Top 100 Immortals of Rock & Roll. More about one of the original founders of Rock and Roll.

 

Featured Writer Wade Jackson

A name in original country and western music, well known to thousands of U.S. service men and women on military installations in the U.S. and overseas for decades has re-emerged and "a rarin to go" again with fiddle, banjo, mandolin, lead guitar and more in addition to spell binding stories and comedy. A "Tops in Blue" contest winner and performer in Military Special Services traveling shows and productions.

Wade Jackson has traveled and performed on the same stages and shows with JImmie Rodgers, Red Sovine, Grandpa Jones, George Morgan, The Great Country comedian "Duke Of Paducah", Justin Tubb, Ernie Ashworth, Nat Stuckey, Johnny Cash and Stonewall Jackson, who happens to be his brother.

From left to right:Stonewall Jackson, Wade Jackson and Marvin Jackson all served in the military. Marvin and Wade retired from the military.. Wade also served as Entertainment Specialist and  entertained troops throughout his military service in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Featured Writer Tirk Wilder

Tirk wrote the theme song for the mega-hit CBS television show, "Walker, Texas Ranger", "The Eyes of The Ranger"  and received the prestigious BMI TV Music award for three consecutive years.
